Angular-cli

Angular-CLI with the Super Powers  #javascript #AngularCLI #angularjs #appdev #devops

  • Angular-cli has simplified the life of a lot of developers reducing the startup time of a project and giving the ability to focus only on the code without wasting time in configurations.
  • However, a lot of angular developers (me included) were not able to use angular-cli because was not possible to change the configuration, adding new plugins or in general use all the flexibility that webpack offer.
  • Yesterday, after a long day while I was relaxing on the couch reading some news on twitter and boooom the twitter that I was waiting for months it’s finally here: Angular-cli from version 32.3 has a new feature called eject that allow you to generate a webpack.config.js for your project.
  • First of all we need to install angular-cli globally (for whom was already using it remember that it has changed name from angular-cli to @angular/cli) :

    We’re ready to generate a new project with the cli ( I like scss so I’ll use it):

    Until now nothing new, we just created a normal project with scss support….

  • In your project you’ll find finally the file that you were dreaming for a long time: webpack.config.js and you finally are free to add the plugin that you like.

Version 32.3 of Angular-cli allow you to create your own webpack.config.js adding the plugin and the configuration that you need

Quick Look @ Angular

  • There seems to be some difficulty just trying out a modern Single Page Application framework.
  • Gone are the day of adding a script tag to the page and doing simple binding syntax to just see how things could start to work.
  • Lets take a look at what it takes to go from empty directory to “working” project using the Angular CLI.
  • Start it up with

    If you didn’t specify a port number open a browser and enter the address “http://localhost:4200/” and you should see =>

    If you didn’t specify a port number open a browser and enter the address “http://localhost:4200/” and you should see =>

    If you go into the folder and open and update line 9

    And as long as you kept the server running when you made the change it should automatically reload the page with the change in the browser when you save after a quick rebuild.

  • Let’s take a look at creating something useful next time.

A quick look at creating an app using Angular and the Angular-cli.

Building News App Using Hacker News API and Angular2

Building News App Using #HackerNews API and #AngularJS 2

  • I am a regular reader of Hacker News and I get lots of new and exciting news related to my interest in every day.
  • One thing which Hacker News is not supporting is listing the links or stories based on the interest or categories ( like Node, Angular, cat videos etc ).
  • When a user opens up our app, we make an API call to Hacker News Server and it returns us the data.
  • /app.component.html’,
      styleUrls: class HackerNewsComponent {
      news = {};
      constructor(private HackerNewsService: HackerNewsService) {
        = this.news = data);
      }
    }
    We have created a new component and added the selector, let’s add our selector in the html
    html
    head
      meta charset=”utf-8″
      titleHacker News Extractor/title
      base href=”/”
      meta name=”viewport” content=”width=device-width, initial-scale=1″
      link rel=”icon” type=”image/x-icon” href=”favicon.ico”
    /head
    body style=’margin-left: 10%;’
      h1 style=’margin-left: 2%;’Top NodeJS News Today Extracted from Hacker News/h1
      to add the Service and component in Angular module, we need to edit the app.module.ts file.
  • /app.component’;
    import { HackerNewsService } from declarations: [
        HackerNewsComponent
      ],
      imports: [
        BrowserModule,
        FormsModule,
        HttpModule
      ],
      providers: [HackerNewsService],
      bootstrap: class AppModule { }
    Now, we need to add code in our component file to display the news.
