ng-poller

  • First, declare on your frontend the resources you will be watching for updates:

    Then start listening for changes:

    I’d suggest adding it inside the method of your main module, but it’s not a requirement, I just like to separate the configuration from the actual logic.

  • The keys of this object are identifiers which will be required by the function in order to identify the resource to watch.
  • On your backend you will need to implement the function as below

    This function needs to be called on the result you want to send the client, when changes are found.

  • The parameter indicates whether or not there are new results, is the default result to send the client in case no updates are found, is the new result found, which is what the client will receive in the callback function passed to the function.
  • Don’t forget to call this function before sending results to the client, as this is the only format supported by the poller service.

Shayne Boyer: dotnet new angular to Azure with Docker using CLI

  • Creating a new Angular app
    If there is a piece of advice when using any CLI (Command Line Interface), it is to first look at the -h|–help and inspect the options that are available.
  • # base image for ASP.NET Core
    # automatically exposes PORT 80
    FROM microsoft/aspnetcore:1.1.1

    # install nodejs for angular, webpack middleware
    RUN apt-get update
    RUN apt-get -f install
    RUN apt-get install -y wget
    RUN wget -qO- | bash –
    RUN apt-get install -y build-essential nodejs

    # set the working directory
    WORKDIR /app

    # set the environment to Production
    ENV ASPNETCORE_ENVIRONMENT Production

    # copy the published folder created using
    # dotnet publish -o published -c Release
    COPY published .

  • $ docker login

    $ docker push CLI
    The Azure CLI 2.0 is Azure’s new command line experience for managing Azure resources.

  • If you have two factor authentication, this method doesn’t work*
    az login -u username -p password

    Creating a web app on Azure with a custom Docker image
    The following bash script creates a resource group, an AppService plan, and the web app on the using Linux.

  • #/bin/bash

    #
    location=”WestUS”
    plan=”AppServiceDocker”

    # Create a Resource Group
    az group create –name $resourceGroup –location $location

    # Create an App Service Plan
    az appservice plan create –name $plan –resource-group $resourceGroup –location $location –is-linux –sku S1

    # Create a Web App
    az appservice web create –name $appName –plan $plan –resource-group $resourceGroup

    # Configure Web App with a Custom Docker Container from Docker Hub
    az appservice web config container update –docker-custom-image-name $dockerHubContainerPath –name $appName –resource-group $resourceGroup

Visual Studio 2017 has been released and the features are great for Windows developers. However along with it comes .NET Core 1.0 tooling and large improvements to the command line experience for macOS and Linux users developing ASP.NET Core applications.
